The UND and Grand Forks communities are invited to an open house at the UND Observatory Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 20 and 21, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Star parties will also occur at the site in the evenings, weather permitting, beginning at 9 p.m.
The UND Observatory has been undergoing renovations and upgrades for the past several years and is entering its operational phase. The site includes three Internet-controllable optical telescopes and one Internet-controllable radio telescope. The Observatory offers the Upper Midwest's only suite of dedicated online telescopes that allow students and faculty from around the world to conduct research and education projects. The UND Observatory is also the founding member of the Space Grant Internet Telescope Network (SGITN), which is a growing international network of Internet-controllable telescopes.
