Star Party on November 17th to View Leonid Meteor Showers
NOTE day of the week change: while Star Parties normally are held Friday evenings, this last party of the season focuses on the Leonid Meteor Showers, which this year peak Tuesday-Wednesday, Nov. 17-18.
Weather permitting—and because the moon will be a waxing crescent that night—it should be a good show with sightings of up to 20 meteors per hour as the Earth passes through the trail of comet Temple-Tuttle (which takes about 33 years to orbit the Sun).
Directions to the UND Observatory can be found online here.
UND Star Parties—free and open to the public—are for everyone whether you’re an experienced stargazer or a novice.
Telescopes will be available at the Observatory site, but you're welcome to bring your own telescopes and/or binoculars, and chairs.
