SpSt 502 will now be offered in fall semester
SpSt 502 – Survey of Space Studies II is currently offered every spring semester. Students have suggested that we change the semester in which it is offered from the spring to fall semester. The rationale for this request is that students oftentimes have to wait for three semesters (spring, summer and fall) after completing SpSt 501, before enrolling in SpSt 502. The reason many students have to wait so long is that the prerequisites for SpSt 502 are SpSt 501 and two additional Space Studies courses. Many first-year students, especially distance students, do not have enough credits to take SpSt 502 immediately in the spring after taking SpSt 501. By the next fall semester, though, they are likely to have completed the two additional courses. This change would help many students progress more rapidly toward graduation.
The Space Studies Graduate Faculty has carefully considered and approved this request. This change will take effect beginning the 2011-2012 Academic Year. Hence, the Space Studies Department will offer SpSt 502 in the Spring 2011 and Fall 2011 semesters, and every fall semester thereafter.
