Thesis Proposal by David Booth on May 16th
5/14/2012 Space Studies master’s student, David Booth, will give his thesis proposal presentation as follows. Please mark your calendars and show your support by attending. When: Wednesday, May 16th at 1:30 pm Where: Ryan Hall, Room 111 Title: Suitport Design for Lunar/Mars Base Concept
About: Conceptual design of Suitport system for proof of concept study for new Lunar/Mars base will be presented. While space suit design has constantly evolved since the start of the space age, the overall process has remained the same. Extensive time is required for donning/doffing the multi-piece space suit, while additional time and energy is required to evacuate the airlock prior to an Extravehicular Activity (EVA) or spacewalk. The Suitport system, incorporated with UND’s new NDX-2 space suit offers a potential next step in the evolution of human EVAs. The design offers many potential improvements over current donning/doffing protocols in use for EVAs. The two main objectives of the suitport are to reduce donning/doffing times and to eliminate space dust contamination by eliminating the need for an airlock. |
