Katie is a first-year graduate student in the UND Space Studies department, and is completing the distance program while living and working in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2005 from Western Michigan University in Interpersonal Communication with a minor in Comparative Religion, graduating Magna cum Laude. She spent a summer semester abroad studying at the University of Cambridge, UK. She returned to school in 2006 to study biology and chemistry, and earned certification and licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician. She currently works as a records archivist at Abraxas Worldwide, and is a violinist in the Kalamazoo Philharmonia.
Katie is very excited to finally turn her lifelong passion for outer space into a profession by embarking on a course of studies at UND, ultimately culminating in completion of the doctoral program. She is a devoted fan of Carl Sagan, and hopes to follow in his footsteps as a planetary scientist. Her research interests include astrobiology, radio astronomy, black holes, and quantum gravity.
