Katie is a graduate student in the UND Space Studies department, completing the distance program while living and working in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2005 from Western Michigan University in Interpersonal Communication with a minor in Comparative Religion, graduating Magna cum Laude. She spent a summer semester abroad studying at the University of Cambridge, UK. She returned to school in 2006 to study biology and chemistry, and earned certification and licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician. She currently works as a records archivist at Abraxas Worldwide, and is a violinist in the Kalamazoo Philharmonia.
Having been a keen amateur astronomer for most of her life, Katie is finally turning her passion into a paycheck. She plans to complete both the Masters and Doctoral programs at UND, and hopes to eventually work as a planetary scientist in the polar regions studying the Earth’s magnetosphere. Her other space research interests include asteroids and meteors, astrobiology, quantum physics, radio astronomy, and space law.
